Selman Waksman

Ukrainian-American scientist, biochemist, microbiologist who discovered Streptomycin and many antibiotics

Selman Waksman (July 22, 1888- August 16, 1973) was an American biochemist and a microbiologist. His research into organic substances and their decomposition helped the discovery of Streptomycin from streptomyces and other antibiotic medicines. He won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1952 "for his discovery of "streptomycin" the first antibiotic active against tuberculosis."
