Septic shock
medical condition defined as sepsis that has circulatory, cellular and metabolic abnormalities, is associated with clinical severity and greater risk of dying.
Septic shock is a medical condition which can result from sepsis. Sepsis is a special form of infection. With septic shock, the circulation of blood changes or stops. This makes septic shock a medical emergency, which is usually treated in intensive care. Between a quarter and half the people with the condition die.
Treatment is usually done in the following steps:
- Stabilizing, restarting blood circulation, usually by giving fluids
- Treatment of the infection
- Coping with organ failures
