Society of Biblical Literature
American learned society
The Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) is a learned society founded in 1880 with the name Society of Biblical Literature and Exegesis. The SBL is dedicated to the academic study of the Bible and related ancient literature.[1] There are 8,300 individuals from over 100 countries and the membership is open to the public.[2][3] Since 1929 the SBL has been a constituent society of the American Council of Learned Societies.[4]
