Special reconnaissance
intelligence gathering discipline
Special reconnaissance (SR) is carried out by small units of highly trained military people.
They are usually from special forces units or military intelligence organizations. They operate behind enemy lines. They avoid direct combat and being detected by the enemy.
Roles
changeSpecial reconnaissance operates from commando operations. Both are often carried out by the same units. It often includes covert direction of airstrikes and indirect fires. They work in areas deep behind enemy lines. They place remotely monitored sensors. They make preparations for other special forces.
They may also carry out directly and unconventional warfare, including guerrilla operations.
