Supporters' Shield
annual award given to the Major League Soccer team with the best regular season record, as determined by the MLS points system
The Supporters' Shield is an award given to the MLS team that had the most points in the regular season. It was first given out in 1999, and has since been seen as a major trophy. Before 1999, the winners of the regular season won nothing but a spot in the MLS Cup semifinals.
