Symbolic anthropology
the study of cultural symbols and how those symbols can be interpreted to better understand a particular society
Symbolic anthropology or symbolic and interpretive anthropology is the study where cultural symbols can be used in society. Important figures of this study are Clifford Geertz as founder of interpretive anthropology, Max Weeber, Mary Douglas, David M. Schneider and Victor Turner.
