Charleston is the 2nd most populated city in the South Carolina behind Columbia the state capital with a population of 141,931.Charleston is also the seat of Charleston County and the principal city in the Charleston–North Charleston metropolitan area.Charleston is the oldest city in South Carolina where Colonel William Moultrie's battle took place and where it had the very first battle of of the Civil War in Fort Sumter.
