I have never before heard that the assistant Cortana had any connection to the Halo character Cortana other than the name. ("Cortana" is Latin for "short sword.") Sure, maybe it's true and I just haven't heard about it (they are all made by Microsoft). If anyone wants to put the information back, just add a reliable source.
