"desert island" or "deserted island"?

According to the most reliable dictionaries a desert island is:

• a tropical island where no people live
• an island, especially in a warm region, where no people live
• a small tropical island that is far away from other places and has no people living on it

But Webster claims otherwise:

• an island where no people live
