Approximately 10,000 Nama died during the fighting. Approximately 100 000 Herero died. At least 50 000 were confined to concentration camps where many died from diseases.[1]

On 19 November 1905 Lothar von Trotha returned to Germany and was appointed as an infantry general in 1910. Due to infected food, Trotha died of typhoid fever (bilious fever) on 31 March 1920 in Bonn.
