first sentence of the article

The article's first section currently reads: “A solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice each year when the Sun's apparent position in the sky reaches its northernmost or southernmost point.” But that isn't true. For example, from a location in the USA, the sun reaches its southernmost location every single day, that being due south. I guess my issue is with the terminology "apparent position in the sky". What's northernmost or southernmost at the solstice is not the "apparent position of the sun", but the subsolar point. In other words, at the June solstice the sun is directly above a point on the Tropic of Cancer while at the December solstice the sun is directly above a point on the Tropic of Capricorn. These are the northernmost and southernmost positions of the subsolar point. Mathew5000 (talk) 21:33, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Table of solstices and equinoxes

The article currently has a table of the solstices and equinoxes from 2004 to 2017. I think it might be confusing, too much information considering the article is supposed to be about the solstice. I would suggest having a table of solstices only in this article, and a table of equinoxes only in the equinox article, with the table of both solstices and equinoxes at the articles solar calendar and season.
