Template:Infobox galaxy cluster/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Infobox galaxy cluster. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Infobox for articles on galaxy groups and galaxy clusters. Intended for the creation of new galaxy cluster pages and for updating older pages with outdated infoboxes.

Parameters
changename
changeName of the object wikilinked to the parent catalog page, i.e. Abell 370, NGC 7318, etc.
image
changeAssociated image of the object:
caption
changeText underneath the image.
credit
changeTo whom do we owe this great pleasure?
epoch
changeEquatorial coordinates based on which epoch? If other than J2000, please find or convert to J2000.
constellation
changeWikilink to constellation.
ra
change00
dec
change±00
brightest_member
changeThe brightest (visible) member.
member_no
changeThe number of galaxies belonging to the cluster, out to (at least) the virial radius.
richness
changeAbell (or related) richness class. Based on number of members within a magnitude range of m3 to m3+2, where m3 is the magnitude of the third brightest member of the cluster. Not to be mistaken for the total number of galaxies in the cluster. Link to the digital version of the entire Abell Catalog is here.
bmtype
changeBautz-Morgan classification type is available via NASA Extragalactic Database (NED) or the digital version of the Abell Catalog.
velocity_dispersion
changeVelocity dispersion of the cluster (as opposed to of only the core).
redshift
change- z, if ≳ 0.2 :
0.8
- z (km/s), if ≲ 0.2 :
0.0717 (21 500 km/s)
distance
changeNED's default value for the dimensionless Hubble parameter is 0.73 using the WMAP 3-year results, but one is able to change this to match the WMAP 5-year results with h=0.705.
- If measurement is left in 'units' of h:

gives h−1 - If h=0.73 is used:
0.73
gives h−1
0.73 100 Mpc 0.73
gives 100 Mpc (326.16 Mly) h−1
0.73 0.73
gives 100 ± 20 Mpc (326 ± 65 Mly) h−1
0.73- Use Gpc as appropriate and/or feel free to leave off the light-year conversion if it becomes unwieldy. Parsecs are less ambiguous and are preferred over light-years, especially at cosmological distances (and also at nearby distances were parallaxes can be measured).
temperature
changeX-ray temperature of the intracluster medium, usually given in keV.
mass
change1.414 0.70 M☉
gives 1.4×1014 h−1
0.70 M☉
luminosity
change- X-ray luminosity, usually given in erg s-1 for some keV range.
1.414 erg s-1 (0.1—2.4 keV)
gives 1.4×1014 erg s-1 (0.1—2.4 keV)
flux
change- X-ray flux, usually given in erg s-1 cm-2 for some keV range.
(1.4 ± 0.2)-11 erg s-1 cm-2 (0.1—2.4 keV)
gives (1.4 ± 0.2)×10−11 erg s-1 cm-2 (0.1—2.4 keV)
other_names
changePlease don't list all the cross-identifications in NED for each object.
