Template:Missing credit
This article's history does not have credit telling what other article it came from. (November 2024) |
Editors are allowed to move things from other Wikipedia articles or other Wikipedias, but they have to use the change summary to say where it came from. If they forgot, you can add this template to the top of the article to say that the article history does not say where it came from, and should be adjusted.
Usage
changeDo you know if part of this article was copied or translated from another article?
- If it was copied, use
copy
to make it say "what other article it was copied from" instead of "what other article it came from". - If it was translated, use
translation
to make it say "what other Wikipedia it was translated from" instead. - If it came from another article, but you don't know if it was copied or translated, just use
missing credit
. - If it was not copied or translated from another Wikipedia, then do not use this template.
When to use this template
changeYou can add this template when the article has content copied or translated from other articles or other Wikipedias, and the article history does not say where it came from.
When not to use it
changeDo not use this template if there is nothing in the article that was copied or translated from some other article, or if the article history already says where the copied or translated content came from.
How to fix the problem
changeAs it says in the Wikipedia:Copyrights page:
- You can do this by writing in your edit summary where you have copied the work from. A full step-by-step set of instructions is located at How to copy from another Wikipedia.
You should save your copied or translated edit "...with an edit summary that gives credit to the source by including where you got the information."
If you know where the copied or translated content came from, you can fix the problem and remove the template. To fix the problem, make a tiny edit, like adding one blank space to the article, and then add something like one of these models to the change summary:
Added information copied from the article Plant.
(use this when copying from other Simple articles)Added information copied from the English Wikipedia article :en:Plant.
(when copying from English Wikipedia articles)Added information translated from the Spanish Wikipedia article :es:Planta.
(when translating from other Wikipedias)
See How to copy from another Wikipedia, step #11. For the WP code and foreign Wikipedia name to use for translated text as in the last example, see the table at List of Wikipedias[broken anchor].
When to remove this template
changeYou may remove this template, after someone adds a change summary to the article history saying where the copied or translated content comes from.
