Template:US states missing/doc

This template is used on categories related to states of the United States. It shows which states do not yet have certain categories. For example, when used on Category:American writers by state, it shows which states do not yet have categories for writers from them.

The template includes the fifty states and Washington, D.C. It does not currently include United States territories.

When there are categories for all states for a given topic, this template can be removed from the category.

Syntax

The template takes two parameters.

1. Required: the topic of the category. An example is "Writers".
2. Optional: a word that goes between the value of the first parameter and the name of each U.S. state to make the state category name. The default is "from". Some categories would need the word "in"

The template uses the parameters to build category names, and checks to see if the categories exist.

looks for category names like "Writers from <state>", and gives this:
