Description

change

This template creates an other website link for a specific Solar System feature (such as a lunar or Martian crater), which was officially named by the Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (also see planetary nomenclature ). The template uses a unique numeric Feature ID (first parameter) as an identifier, so that the external link will point to the corresponding single-feature page at Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature – International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN).

The {{WGPSN}} template should be used in a reference column of listed features in a wikitable or in an external link section, and not as an inline citation: (for inline citations, use the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature template: {{GPN}}). There are more than 15,000 named planetary features that can be referred to by this template using the appropriate ID.

The lunar crater Tycho (featureID: 6163) can be referenced with the {{WGPSN}}-template as follows:

  • {{WGPSN|6163}}WGPSN, the WGPSN label is displayed as default
  • {{WGPSN|6163|Tycho}}Tycho, a custom label (here "Tycho") can be added to change the default
  • {{WGPSN|6163|IAU/WGPSN Planetary Gazetteer – Tycho}}IAU/WGPSN Planetary Gazetteer – Tycho, with another custom label
