This template only for criminal trials change

Although called generically 'Trial', this template makes reference specifically to criminal trials, wherein a defendant may be found "guilty" or "innocent". Thus, it is not appropriate for use in civil trials, wherein a defendant may only be found "liable" or "not liable" for damages. Further, it's quite possible to be found guilty or liable without this having been "proven". Ostensibly, that's what the courts are doing, but really it only depends on what rulings they make, regardless of what has actually been proven.

I'm not sure how to address this issue in "simple" English, though. —Mjb (talk) 21:48, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
