A term of office, electoral term, or parliamentary term is the amount of time a person serves in a after being elected for an office. In many jurisdictions, there is a limit on how long the term of office may be before the officeholder must be subject to a re-election. Some jurisdictions have term limits, which means it sets a maximum number of terms an individual may hold in a particular office.
