Thanat Khoman

Thai politician (1914–2016)

Thanat Khoman (also Thanad; Thai: ถนัด คอมันตร์; RTGS: Thanat Khoman; May 9, 1914 – March 3, 2016) was a Thai former diplomat and politician. He was Foreign Minister from 1959 to 1971, chairman of the Democrat Party from 1979 to 1982, and Deputy Prime Minister from 1980 to 1982.[1][2]

He and foreign ministers of 4 other countries, were responsible for starting ASEAN.[3]

Khoman died in Bangkok, Thailand of respiratory failure on March 3, 2016 at the age of 101.[4]
