The Pillow Book is a 1996 international erotic drama movie directed by Peter Greenaway and was based on the novel of the same name by Sei Shōnagon. It stars Vivian Wu, Ewan McGregor, Yoshi Oida, Ken Ogata, Hideko Yoshida, Judy Ongg, Ken Mitsuishi. The movie combines dark modern drama with idealised Chinese and Japanese cultural themes and settings. It centres on body painting.
