The Type 79 is a Chinese submachine gun. This is the first generation of self-produced submachine guns. It was designed in 1979 and began mass production in 1983. 200,000 units were produced until 1992, when production stopped. At its peak, up to 30,000 were produced per year.
The Type 79 fires 7.62 x 25mm Tokarev ammunition, has a 20-round magazine, is gas-operated, has a rate of fire of 500 rounds/minute, an effective range of 200 m and weighs 1.75 kg. It has a folding upward stock.
