Uesugi Shrine

Uesugi Shrine (上杉神社) is a Shinto shrine located in Yonezawa, Yamagata.[1][2][3] It is a Beppyo shrine and is dedicated to the memory of Uesugi Kenshin, a famous military leader in Japanese history[1].[2] The shrine was built in 1876 on the site of Yonezawa Castle,[3] and it enshrines the spirit of Uesugi Kenshin.[1][2]

Every year in February, a snow lantern festival is held at the shrine where lanterns are carved out of snow to honor the memory of Uesugi Kenshin. It is a popular event that attracts many visitors.[1]
