Umro Ayyar - A New Beginning is a 2024 Pakistani Urdu-language science fantasy action film film directed by Azfar Jafri and written by Atif Siddique. The film is based on the character of the classical Persian fictional character "Umro Ayyar".[1]

The film premiered on 13 June in Lahore,[2] and it released in theaters on 17 June 2024 (Eid al-Adha) in Pakistan.[3] The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics for its direction, performances, action sequences, and visual effects but criticism on underdeveloped characters and the screenplay.[4]

Synopsis

As the legend unfolds, the imminent threat posed by the Laqqa clan looms large. These adversaries seek to unleash a powerful demon during an upcoming lunar eclipse, threatening to plunge the world into chaos. Amar, a professor, armed with newfound abilities, becomes humanity's last hope against this malevolent force. Legend becomes myth, myth becomes story, and after centuries, the legend awakens once more.

Production

On November 17, 2021, the production company VR Chili Production announced the Umro Ayyar film in development by uploading the official title reveal video to their YouTube channel.[5] Azfar Jafri founded a talented VFX team in Islamabad and hired well-known Pakistani actors.[6] Basically, the idea of the film was to produce a fantasy film based on a local classical novel Hamzanama's character, Umro Ayyar.[7] The team represented the film at WonderCon by launching their trailer in March 2024.[8] The production of the film completed at the start of 2024.

The film released in cinemas on 17 June 2024 in all of Pakistan.[9]
