Who? such a simple question. When an article about a person is up deletion I run through a few steps.

  1. Do I know who this person is? "No" is not a game changer. It's not like I've heard of everyone. On a "yes" answer, I am more likely to say keep.
  2. what does wikidata say? If a lot of wikis have a page on this person, it is more likely that they are notable. If the history on the wikidata page shows that a lot of wikis used to have the page but no longer do, there is probably a reason for that. Likely some cross-wiki spamming going on. Not a good thing.
  3. What does Google say. If the first page is basically social media pages and/or us, this is never a good sign for being notable.
  4. Did the author provide any valid info in defense of notability. What is in the article? Can it be proven> Hhow valid are the refs? If they have proven that the person won a medal in international play, that's almost always notable - third best tiddliwinks player *in the world.* OK, so not an actual sport but still an international medal. First place in the Dade County annual spelling bee? impressive, but not so notable.

If the results of all this leaves me asking "Who?" then I'm likely voting delete.

  • "What?" is "Who?" for non-people articles. Same basic procedure.
