Gaston Bussiere was a French painter, who was born on 24 April 1862 and died 29 October 1928.
Biography
changeBussière studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Lyon before entering the School of Fine Arts of Paris. In Paris, he studied under Alexandre Cabanel then under Pierre Puvis de Chavannes . In 1884, he won the Marie Bashkirtseff Prize. In 1885, he displayed his works at the Salon.
Close to Gustave Moreau, he was inspired by Hector Berlioz, William Shakespeare and Richard Wagner. He made the illustrations of works of Honoré de Balzac, Théophile Gautier, and Oscar Wilde. He has also illustrated works of Gustave Flaubert and contributed to the magazine Le Monde moderne .
Shortly close to Joséphin Peladan, Bussière displayed his works at the Salon of the Rose-Cross between 1893 and 1895 [1] .
The Museum of Ursulines in Macon keeps a collection of his works.
