The Intel i386 ( officially called the Intel 80386) was a CPU by Intel. It was released in October 1985. It was a successor to the Intel 80286 which was released in February 1982. It was the first 32-bit x86-based CPU. The 386 has three modes: real mode, protected mode and virtual mode. The 80286's protected mode was improved which lets the CPU use 4 GB of RAM.
