Wikipedia:What FOLLOW is not
This essay contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia users. Essays may represent common ideas, or ideas that many users would not support. They are not rules. Think carefully about what they say before following them. |
This page in a nutshell: Policies on English Wikipedia are not the same as policies on Simple Wikipedia and should not be used as a rationale. |
As the Simple Wikipedia is small, not many guidelines and essays are on the Simple Wikipedia. Since English Wikipedia is very large and many users come from English Wikipedia to Simple Wikipedia, we have WP:FOLLOW that says that any guidelines from English Wikipedia can be used if we do not have a rule here.
This rule, however, does not necessarily that everything is the same from English to Simple Wikipedia. If a user suggests a new guideline that does not exist in English Wikipedia, then their idea should be taken into account. If a user challenges an English Wikipedia guideline on Simple Wikipedia because it does not meet the interest of the users, then their idea should also be taken into account. These users should not be immediately trumped by people saying "WP:FOLLOW" with no other explanation. This is misinterpreting WP:FOLLOW. WP:FOLLOW does not make Simple English Wikipedia the same as English Wikipedia for simplicity's sake. WP:FOLLOW makes Simple English Wikipedia similar to English Wikipedia because the Simple English Wikipedia does not have enough editors to make and update them.
