In Japan he is called "Enma" and "Great King Enma".

His name is related to Ymir, the ancestor of the jötnar in Norse mythology, whose body became the universe. The dwarf planet Pluto was named after the god of death in Roman mythology, similar to Yama. This means Pluto is called "Yama" in the Hindi language.
