Académie française

the pre-eminent French learned body on matters pertaining to the French language; a division of "Institut de France"

L'Académie française (English: The French Academy) is France's main authority on the French language. It was created in Paris on 22 February 1635. Like the French Academy of Sciences, it is one of five academies in the Institut de France.
