Acting President of Sudan

The acting president of the Republic of Sudan (Arabic: القائم بأعمال رئيس جمهورية السودان, romanized: alqayim bi'aemal rayiys jumhuriat alsuwdan) is a temporary post provided by the Constitution of Sudan. The acting president is a person who fulfills the duties of the president of the Republic of Sudan when cases of incapacity amd vacancy occur. The person who holds the office has powers like the President. Just like the President, the Acting President has the power to call for Referendums, Elections, has the power to dissolve Congress and can change the Constitution. This post is usually held by the First Vice President.

Sudanese Socialist Union 25 May 1969 12 October 1971 Nimiry was Acting President from 1969 where Nimiry took power from President Ismail al-Azhari following the 1969 Sudanese coup d'état to 1971. From 1969 to 1971, Nimiry was also the Chairman of the National Revolutionary Command. On 12 October 1971, the council was dissolved and Nimiry declared himself President.

National Congress Party 30 June 1989 16 October 1993 Bashir was Acting President from 1989 where Bashir took power from President Ahmed al-Mirghani and Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi following the 1989 Sudanese coup d'état to 1993. From 1989 to 1993, Bashir was also the Chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council for National Salvation. On 16 October 1993, the council was dissolved and Bashir declared himself President.

National Congress Party 11 April 2019 25 October 2021 First Vice President of Sudan Burhan became acting president following the 2019 Sudanese coup d'état where President Bashir was overthrown. Burhan was also the Chairman of the Transitional Military Council from April to August 2019 and the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council from 2019 to 2021 where the council was dissolved and where Burhan immediately declared himself President.
