Adrienne Shelly

American actress (1966–2006)

Adrienne Shelly (also known as Adrienne Levine; June 24, 1966 – November 1, 2006) was an American actress, movie director and screenwriter. Shelly was born in Queens, New York.

She wrote, co-starred in and directed the 2007 movie Waitress. She was also known for her roles in independent movies.

In 2000, Shelly won a U.S. Comedy Arts Festival Film Discovery Jury Award. She won the award for the 1999 movie I'll Take You There. Shelly also guest-starred in Law & Order and Oz.

Murder and trial change

On November 1, 2006, Shelly was found hanging in the shower of her Greenwich Village work studio apartment. It was originally thought she had killed herself. But an illegal immigrant from Ecuador, a construction worker, confessed to killing Shelly.[3][4] He was later sentenced to 25 years in prison for first-degree manslaughter.[5]
