History

change

The Afghanistan National Olympic Committee was formed in 1935. It was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1936.[4]

Afghanistan's team first competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.[1]

In 1999, Afghanistan was banned from the Olympics due to its discrimination against women under Taliban rule.

In the 2004 Summer Olympics two women, Robina Muqim Yaar and Friba Razayee, were the first women to compete for Afghanistan at the Olympics.[5] Mehboba Ahdyar, a woman in the 2008 Summer Olympics had death threats because of her plan to be in the Games.[6]
