Ajvar
Ajvar (Cyrillic script: Ajвар) is a type of condiment made from bell peppers and sometimes tomatoes. Some households may use different recipes and add their own traditional kick to it, which also determines if it is spicy. It is popular in the Balkans. It is also a bread spread. It can be used in a wide variety of meals. You can use it as a bread spread and top it with some cheese. You can use it as a side dish for a bigger meal. It goes well with pretty much anything but it pairs the best with barbecue, more specifically Leskovački roštilj. All in all a great food all around.
It originates from North Macedonia , from where it spread to other Balkan countries after World War II.
The most famous ajvar is Leskovački ajvar, from the city of Leskovac, Serbia.
