Anton Janda

Austrian footballer (1904-1986)

Anton Janda (1 May 1904 – 26 September 1985)[1] was an Austrian football defender. He played for the Austria in the 1934 FIFA World Cup.[2] He also played for SK Admira Wien.

Career

Anton Janda began his career at SC Nord-Wien 1912, where he was a left winger in the first team when he was only 15 years old. In 1922 he moved to Admira, where he made his debut as a striker in the championship in spring 1924 and from the following season he had a regular place in the defense. With the Admira Anton Janda was able to reach one of his greatest successes. With the champion team of Admira from 1934, they made it into the Mitropacupfinale, the forerunner of the European Cup.

In 1935 he left Admira and played for SC Austro Fiat Vienna. Further positions were at FC Zell am See, SV Austria Salzburg, Heiligenstädter SV and Austria XIII in Vienna in the post-war years.

National team

Between 1928 and 1934 he played 10 matches for the Austrian national football team. He debuted on 1 April 1928 versus Czechoslovakia in a 0-1 loss. His last match was on 23 September 1934 in a 2-2 draw against Czechoslovakia.[3] For Austria he played in the 1934 FIFA World Cup.
