Armageddon (movie)

1998 film directed by Michael Bay

Armageddon is a 1998 American science fiction disaster movie produced and directed by Michael Bay, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and released by Touchstone Pictures.

The movie follows a group of blue-collar workers sent by NASA to stop a gigantic asteroid on a collision course with Earth. It stars Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Will Patton, Steve Buscemi, William Fichtner, Owen Wilson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Keith David and Peter Stormare.

The movie was very successful, making $553.7 million worldwide at the box office against its $140 million movie budget and becoming the highest-grossing movie of 1998 and the highest-grossing movie to be released by Touchstone Pictures. The movie received mixed reviews from movie critics.

Armageddon was released in the same summer as the similarly themed Deep Impact, which was also very successful but earned less than Armageddon at the box office, while astronomers described Deep Impact as being more accurate.[1][2]
