The arrondissement of Romorantin-Lanthenay is an arrondissement of France, in the Loir-et-Cher department of the Centre-Val de Loire region. Its capital is the city of Romorantin-Lanthenay.

History

When the Loir-et-Cher department was created on 1800, the arrondissement of Romorantin was part of that original department.[1] In 1961, Romorantin was merged with Lanthenay and the name, of the commune and of the arrondissement, was changed to Romorantin-Lanthenay.

Geography

The arrondissement of Romorantin-Lanthenay is the most southern arrondissement in the Loir-et-Cher department. It is the largest arrondissement of the department, 2,385.2 km2 (920.9 sq mi), but the second in population, with 90,237 inhabitants.

It is bordered to the north by the Loiret department, to the east by the Cher department, to the south by the Indre-et-Loire department and to the west by the arrondissement of Blois.
