The arrondissement of Sens is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Yonne département in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its capital is the city of Sens.

History

When the Yonne was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Sens was part of that original department.[2]

Geography

The arrondissement of Sens is bordered to the northeast and east by the Aube (Champagne-Ardenne) department, to the south by the arrondissement of Auxerre, to the west by the Loiret (Centre-Val de Loire) department and to the northwest by the Seine-et-Marne (Île-de-France) department.

It is the northernmost of the arrondissements of the department, with an area of 1,703.6 square kilometres (658 square miles),[3] the smallest in area of the department. It has 114,298 inhabitants and its population density of 67.1 inhabitants/km².[4]
