religious order of the Roman Catholic Church (general name for orders and congregations that follow the Rule of St. Augustine

The Augustinians were Roman Catholic monastic order. Martin Luther became an Augustinian monk at St. Augustine's Monastery in the German city of Erfurt in 1505. He later started the Reformation.

The name comes from Augustine of Hippo.
