The Battle of Koçhisar took place in May 1516 at the Dede-Kargın location near Mardin Kızıltepe, between the Ottoman army under the command of Bıyıklı Mehmed Pasha and the Safavid army under the command of Ustaclu Kara Han. The final encounter of the two commanders who had been struggling for dominance in the region for two years, Kara Khan, the commander of the Safavid army, massacred 11 janissaries, while the others killed him with rifles. Thus, the Safavid army retreated.
