Bill Owens (Massachusetts politician)

William Owens (July 6, 1937 – January 22, 2022) was an American politician and businessman. He was the first Black state senator in the Massachusetts State Senate.[1][2] Owens was born in Demopolis, Alabama. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1973 until 1974. He was a Democrat. He was in the state senate from 1975 to 1982 and from 1989 to 1992.[3][4]

Owens died on January 22, 2022 from COVID-19 in Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 84.[5]
