Cardiac surgery, or cardiovascular surgery, is surgery on the heart or great vessels done by cardiac surgeons.
It is often done to help treat problems caused by ischemic heart disease to fixing a congenital heart disease; or to treat valvular heart disease, including endocarditis, rheumatic heart disease,[1] and atherosclerosis.[2] It also includes heart transplantation.[3]
