Charlie Horn is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist known for his contributions to entrepreneurship, education and commercialization. He has been involved in entrepreneurship education, serving as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence of the McGuire Entrepreneurship program at the Eller Business College of the University of Arizona and being named an Entrepreneurial Fellow in 2003 and the McGuire Hall of Fame.
He also co-founded the Horn Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware in 2012.
Early life and education
changeHe grew up in Pennsylvania and Delaware.[1] Horn graduated from the University of Delaware in 1975 with a degree in sociology. During his time at the university, he was the captain of the golf team[2]
Career
changeHorn developed the retail prescription discount program, ScriptSave, which partnered with retail pharmacies to reduce medication costs.[3] [4]
In 2005, Horn co-founded HealthTrans, an online prescription transaction platform. In 2012, he co-founded Genius Avenue, a benefits administration platform. [5]
Philanthropy
changeHe served as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the McGuire Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management. In 2003, he was named an Entrepreneurial Fellow and inducted into the McGuire Hall of Fame.[6]
In 2012, Horn co-founded the Horn Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Delaware.[7] It has since grown into a youth programs, including The Diamond Challenge and EntreX Labs; these programs have reached high school students in over 100 countries and 40 states.[8]
Awards
changeHorn has been awarded with the Pete duPont Freedom Award from the Pete duPont Freedom Foundation, induction into the University of Delaware Wall of Fame, University of Delaware Medal of Distinction (2022) in the University of Arizona McGuire Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.[9]
He has served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the University of Arizona Eller College of Management and has been awarded with the Tom Brown Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award.[10]
Additionally, the University of Delaware created the Charlie Horn Grinder Award, annually honoring the golf team member.[11]
