Chester Ismay
Chester Ismay is a U.S.-based data expert and teacher with experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and artificial intelligence. He held the position of Senior Director of Data Science Education at Flatiron School. Ismay has contributed to the creation of several R programming libraries, such as infer, fivethirtyeight, thesisdown, and moderndive.
Education
changeIsmay received his PhD in Statistics from Arizona State University in 2013. Prior to that, he earned an MS in Statistics from Northern Arizona University in 2008 and a BS in Computational & Applied Mathematics from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 2006.[1]
Career
changeIsmay served as a Data Science Evangelist at DataRobot from July 2019 to June 2021, where he organized both physical and online workshops on data science and machine learning, led a team of instructors, and updated training materials using tools like Python, R, SQL, and the DataRobot platform.[2][3]
Ismay has authored DataCamp courses, such as "Joining Data in SQL," "Programming with dplyr," and "Data Storytelling via the tidyverse." Additionally, he edited and managed projects for other courses like "Machine Learning for Finance in Python," "Model Validation in Python," "Machine Learning in the Tidyverse," "RNNs for Language Modeling in Python," "Modeling with Data in the Tidyverse," "Communicating with Data in the Tidyverse," and "A/B Testing in R," among others.[4][5]
Ismay has taught a variety of courses, including "Intro to Probability & Stats" at Reed College, "Social Statistics" at Pacific University, "Data Analysis" at Ripon College, and "Computer Science I (C++)" at Ripon College.[6][7]
