Christopher Dominic Ahearne CMG (1886 – 1964)[1] was a colonial administrator. He was a cadet in Straits Settlement Government service in 1910. He was later the Federal Secretary of the Federated Malay States (FMS) in 1936.[2][3]

Life change

Early career change

Ahearne was a cadet in Straits Settlement Government service in 1910.[4] Then he was attached to the Indian Immigrant Department in Penang.[2] He was appointed as District Officer (Balik Pulau) in 1911.[2] He was also appointed as the District Officer of Balik Pulau in 1916.[2] In addition, he held several posts of 2nd Assistant Superintendent of Immigrant (Klang and Kuala Lumpur), Assistant Controller of Labour (Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Klang) in 1913 and 1914.[2] He was Assistant Adviser (Batu Pahut, Johore) in 1919.[2] In 1923 as Second Magistrate in Singapore, Deputy Controller of Labour (Kuala Lumpur) and Deputy Controller of Labour (Penang).[2]

Duties at the Indian Immigration Committee change

In 1925, he was on special duty for Indian Immigration Committee in connection with the Avadi Water Supply and Drainage.[2] He went to Assam to investigate labour condition in British India.[2]

Since the 1930s change

He was the Controller of Labour for Malaya in 1930.[2] In 1931, he led the Straits Settlements Delegation to the International Shipping Conference held in Simila.[2] During the slump, he was the chairman of the Straits Settlements Retrenchment Committee.[2][3] In 1933, he led a Malayan delegation to New Delhi to discuss on the immigration questions with the Indian Government.[3] He was appointed as first Federal Secretary of the Federated Malay States in 1936 to 1939,[2] created by Sir Cecil Clementi.[3]

Honours change

Ahearne was appointed Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) in 1939.[5]
