East African campaign (World War II)

The East African Campaign, was fought in East Africa during the Second world war. It was fought between the Allied powers (mainly the British Empire) and the Kingdom of Italy and its colony in East Africa. The campaign started in June 1940 when Italy joined World War II on the side of Germany and the other Axis powers. In August, Italy invaded and annexed British Somaliland. In January 1941. Allied forces entered Italian East Africa, in May, the Duke of Aosta surrendered Italian East Africa to the Allies and the Ethiopian Arbegnoch (though Italian resistance would continue until 1943).
