Flag of Mississippi
flag of the U.S. state of Mississippi
The state flag of Mississippi, adopted in 2021, features a magnolia flower, a symbol of hospitality, surrounded by 20 stars, signifying Mississippi's status as the 20th state in the union, and a gold five-point star to reflect Mississippi's indigenous Native American tribes. Mississippi was the second state to secede from the Union and join the Confederacy during the American Civil War. Before 2020, the state used a triband flag with a Confederate battle flag at the hoist, first adopted in 1894.
