Gérard Genette
French literary theorist (1930–2018)
Gérard Genette (7 June 1930 – 11 May 2018) was a French literary theorist. He was born in Paris. His works were about the structuralist movement and such figures as Roland Barthes and Claude Lévi-Strauss. He adapted the concept of bricolage. He was awarded the Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2016.[1]
After leaving the French Communist Party, Genette was a member of Socialisme ou Barbarie during 1957–8.[2] Among other positions, Genette was research director at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales[3] and a visiting professor at Yale University.
Genette died on 11 May 2018 at the age of 87.[4]
