Gríðr

Norse female jötunn

In Norse mythology, Gríðr (Old Norse: truce, equivalent of the Greek Ekecheiria) is a female jötunn and a lover of the god Odin. By Odin, she is the mother of Víðarr, the equivalent of the Roman Aeneas, according to Snorri Sturlasson. When Loki schemed to have Thor killed, she gave Thor a number of magical items, which included a pair of gauntlets known as Járngreipr and a staff, Gríðarvölr.
