Gulf of Venice

The Gulf of Venice (Italian: Golfo di Venezia; Slovene: Benátsky záliv; Croatian: Venecijanski zaljeve) is a gulf that borders modern-day Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

Geography

The Gulf of Venice is in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea between the delta of the Po river in northern Italy and the Istria peninsula in Croatia. The western and central parts of the gulf borders with the Italian regions ofVeneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia while the eastern part borders with the coast of Slovenia and Croatia.

Several rivers flow into the gulf along the Italian coast: Isonzo, Piave, Adige, Brenta and Tagliamento. The Dragonja river flows through the Istria peninsula.

The gulf is about 120 km (75 mi) wide and its depth is 38 m (125 ft). In the northeastern end of the gulf, in front of the Trieste city, there is shallow bay called Gulf of Trieste.
