Hermit

person who lives in seclusion from society

A hermit is a person who lives on his own, away from society.[1] This is distinct from a recluse, who avoids others and lives alone.

Saint Jerome, who lived as a hermit near Bethlehem, depicted in his study being visited by two angels (Cavarozzi, early 17th century)

Hermits live in seclusion.[2][3] Hermits occur in the history of several religions.
