Jalalabad

city in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan

Jalalabad (Pashto: جلال اباد) is a city in eastern Afghanistan. Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar Province. By road, it is about 90 miles (140 km) from Kabul to the west. It is also about the same distance from Peshawar in Pakistan to the east. About 360.000 people live there.

Although most of the people of Jalalabad are Pashtun, a few Dari-speaking Tajiks live there, too. Sunni Islam is the main religion of the people.
